Making hot soup in a blender like the Vitamix E310 is totally possible and actually quite easy! As someone who loves blending up quick homemade soups for lunch or dinner, I was curious if the Vitamix E310 could handle this task when I first got it.
After some experimenting, I’m excited to report that the Vitamix E310 can definitely make hot soups! However, there are some important things to know to make sure your soups turn out delicious and piping hot every time.
First, let’s cover the basics. The Vitamix E310 is an excellent mainstream blender model by Vitamix. With a 2.2 peak horsepower motor and stainless steel blades, it delivers professional-grade blending power to break down tough ingredients like frozen fruit, fibrous greens, and hard vegetables into silky smooth textures with ease.
However, unlike some higher-end Vitamix models, the E310 does not have a built-in heating element. This means the motor and friction from the blades produce heat to warm up your soup, rather than a separate heating system.
Despite the lack of a heating element, I’ve had great success making steaming hot soups in my E310 once I figured out a few tips:
Adding already heated liquid is key. Start by bringing vegetable or chicken broth, milk, or water to a simmer on the stovetop first. Then add your chopped veggies and/or other soup ingredients before transferring to the blender.
Blend your soup ingredients on the highest speed setting possible in your E310. This creates more friction and heat to warm up your soup.
As there’s no cooling system, blending too long can overheat the motor. Use short 30-second bursts and let the motor rest for a minute in between.
Pouring your blended soup into an insulated thermos helps retain more heat as you serve it.
With hot liquid, steam will need to escape! Leave the lid vented open to prevent dangerous pressure buildup.
Before ladling into bowls, give your soup a good stir to evenly distribute the heat.
Once you get the method down, the Vitamix E310 can make quick work of all kinds of hot soups to keep you warm on chilly days! Here are two of my favorite soup recipes that turn out perfect in my E310:
This classic is so easy in the Vitamix! Just sautee onions in olive oil, then add to tomatoes, broth, cream and seasonings. Blend until steaming hot and velvety smooth.
For this bright orange soup, sautee onions and curry powder, add to carrots, broth and coconut milk. Blend until hot and serve topped with yogurt.
While it may seem surprising without a heating element, the powerful Vitamix E310 can definitely create homemade hot soups with a little technique. Just be sure to use caution and short blending times to avoid overheating issues. With a few test runs, you’ll be whipping up delicious hot blended soups in no time!
